Most professionals in the healthcare industry are often pushed beyond their limit, and they often put others' needs before their own, ultimately putting their own health on the backburner. Burnout has been described as a work-related state of exhaustion, exemplified as extreme tiredness, emotional and cognitive impairment, and mental distancing (Otto, 2021). In this presentation, we will review ways that supervisors in the behavior analytic field can work to promote wellness in the workplace, identify what constitutes a healthy workplace, and identify why promoting wellness within organizations is beneficial for overall productivity, morale, job satisfaction and lower health risks for staff.
1. Attendees will identify common wellness stressors faced in the behaviour analytic field.
2. Attendees will define burnout, list at least 3 signs of burnout, and identify behaviors associated with burnout.
3. Attendees will review implications of burnout in the workplace.
4. Attendees will identify the dimensions of wellness in the behavior analytic workplace.
5. Attendees will identify at least 3 predictors of burnout, job satisfaction, and turnover with employees (Novack & Dixon, 2019).
