We have created a mastery criterion with three transitional phases. Each phase is designed to develop a skill using a step-up approach that will contribute to the proficiency and independence of the individual by one, teaching and helping them acquire the new skill, 2, sharpening their skills by teaching appropriate replacement behavior, and 3, holding the individual accountable by allowing them to operate from their level of independence.
